After weeks of wondering just what Hillary is still doing in the race, the Anonymous Pundit has divined an answer. She cannot win the nomination, and she knows it. But every day she stays in, she is weakening Barrack Obama. By racking up votes in West Virginia and Kentucky (states unlikely to go to the Democrats) she is highlighting Obama's weaknesses. It is clear now, thinks the Anonymous Pundit, that she wants to make him damaged goods without seeming to be trying to. After she has made it as difficult as possible to win the November, she can sweetly withdraw, pretend to support him, and then say "I told you so"if he fails. It is a cynical, self-centered strategy that puts her own political fortunes above the fate of the nation.
Obama is now making peace overtures to Hillary, but he should be aware that she wishes nothing more than to plunge in the knife without people even noticing that it is in her hand.
